I thought I would give an update to some of the side hustle successes. Here is an update on what I have tried, dropped, or continued. I am going to make this short as I have come down with a nasty cold and only have energy in spurts. Lets call this 4th quarter results as I started being diligent about tracking my activity in October of last year. I think I will continue this trend of quarterly updates.
RA with Amazon – $407.79 Total Deposits (Sales including shipping allowance, excluding fees and initial product cost)
I was really excited about this one when I began. Due to the Amazon restriction on new FBA companies, I started with self fulfillment. My take away so far is that if I were to continue doing self fulfillment, I would really only do it with books. This really has to do with shipping. Amazon just doesn’t give you enough ‘shipping allowance’ to make anything else worth while. I still may try FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) with non book items but that will have to wait until later.
Thrifting/RA with eBay – $1,017.42 in sales (Sum of auction win amounts minus fees. Does not include shipping credits/costs or initial product costs)
If I were asked to compare eBay and Amazon, I would have to say at this point eBay is my preferred side hustle. The fact that I have the power to determine if I offer free shipping or let the customer pay ACTUAL shipping is a plus. The ease of printing shipping labels in the comfort of my own home is also a huge advantage.
Swagbucks – 155 SB
Ok, I have to say I am not real diligent on this one because I have been super busy with everything else going on. Most of my focus has been writing, doing YouTube videos and managing my current eBay flipping side hustle. If you are just sitting around watching t.v., this is an easy way to earn points that can be traded in for gift card from a wide variety of merchants. Television time is usually when I pull out my laptop and click through a few surveys or what ever tasks they have for the day. you can check out the link below.
AdSense – $11.12
This is a total between 3 sites. It is not a huge amount but it is a passive stream of income that I hope will grow. Here are the 3 sites in case you are wondering.
WinByDoing.com – yes, this site right here that is dedicated to side hustle and earning income outside your regular bill paying job.
www.HuckleberryBasket.com – This site dedicated to huckleberries. It was a site a buddy of mine and I put together about a year ago. We haven’t done much with it since then but plan on the possibility of expanding it to other health beneficial foods. To be honest, we couldn’t figure out what else to write about huckleberries.
www.TheAverageDudes.com – This was actually our first site. A group of us decided to start a website where we, as gamers, could write on topics that interested us. I have moved more focus to the WinByDoing endeavor so TheAverageDudes has not gotten much love.
Rev.com – $0
Rev.com is a company that pays folks to interpret, transcibe and caption video audio to text. I think that is the best way to describe it. Well, I went through the application and testing. Unfortunately I got the email that said they only accepted on average 14% of their applicants and I wasn’t chosen. I am going to assume I was in the top 15% and just barely missed the cut.
If any of you have made it in, I would love to hear your experiences and include them in a feature post. Drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
I continue to work on the blog. I try to get posts done at least weekly. Sometimes I will update with more content. It really depends on what is going on in my life at any given time. I do have a regular job and have a family. I am really trying to work on updating the other websites as well. We’ll see how that goes.
I do have one book out there “Turning Ice Cream Into Cash“. I just recently lowered the price to $14.99. I knew from the beginning I priced it high. I just felt like a put a lot of industry knowledge out there that made us successful and our business apart from the competition.
I am also working on another book. I lost about 90 pounds last year and want to give information to help others do the same. I know there are a lot of weight loss books out there so I know I am not cornering the market. I am thinking on going the Amazon route on that one. Selling at a lower price point just to test the waters. More to come on that.
I recently decided I would pair up a YouTube channel with WInByDoing. It takes quite a bit of time to do videos. You have to consider recording/producing, editing, creating covers. I will work on quality going forward but at this point just wanting to put information out there that I think might be valuable information. Ok, right now I have one video but hope to have more to come. You can check it out here.
Other updates – Social Media
As the header there eludes to, I have started using Twitter a lot as well as started including my blogs on Pinterest. Oh, yeah, I just recently started up a Facebook page. I have to admit, it is a lot to keep track of. I still don’t have a complete handle on all the social media but will keep it up.
